RKO 281
OneWorldLive.com Interview with Melanie Griffith

Melanie Griffith is no stranger to the Golden Globes: a former Miss Golden Globe herself, she's also been nominated four other times (for the films Working Girl, Something Wild, and Body Double, and her television work in Buffalo Girls). (She won for Working Girl.)

This year she's up for the Best Supporting Actress Award for her portrayal of 30s film star Marion Davies in HBO's RKO 281, a dramatization of Orson Welles's struggle to bring Citizen Kane to the screen. Melanie recently spoke to ONEWORLDLIVE about her nomination, her family's reaction, and the most important part: getting ready.

This isn't your first nomination -- is it pretty much same old, same old?

I get very excited. I just am kind of hurt because of Crazy in Alabama not getting any nominations when it seemed like we were going to. You never know with the Hollywood Foreign Press.

Do you think it's more important to receive these awards at this point in your career?

It's great if you get an award, but it's enough to be nominated.

Were you surprised about the nomination?

Yeah I was, because actually Antonio called me and he said [Crazy in Alabama] didn't get anything, we didn't get nominated. So I didn't know I was nominated [for RKO 281.] And then Robin Baum, who handles our publicity, called at like 11:30 and said "Congratulations!" I said, "For what?" [Laughs]

At these awards shows these days it seems like it's all about what you're wearing.

No kidding! But it always has been, it's always been that way.

Do you have a stylist, or do you like to choose yourself?

I like to choose myself. I'm going to wear a dress from Badgely Mischka this time. I like their dresses, they're beautiful.

Are your kids excited?

I don't think they even know! [Laughs] They don't really get too excited about that anymore. They sort of look at it as work and I that I don't need to bring it home. Which I believe, too.
