Overcoming Obstacles

RE: The death of a child

The good news us that the pain eases with time, the bad news is that the loss of a child is something you never get over. The loss is always there, it just hurts less. It was about 2 years before I could think of Kayla (died at 18 months from heart surgery) and finally smile. Remembered her cruising around the couch with one foot stuck in a kleenex box. Had to get the camera out before I took the box off, so cute.

It takes time and someone to listen, over and over and over if necessary. The two of you and anyone else willing to listen and care will be the balm that closes the wound. But the scar will always remain.

Life is meant for the living, tho. Focus on life. Nathaniel's siblings are not to blame for his death and therefore must not bear any repercussions. Yes, your sister must find it in herself to be strong for these beautiful babies, too. They will gain strength from seeing their mother regain her balance and know they are alright, too.

Always remember Nathaniel. Never let him be forgotten. He was here. He was real. He was loved and he loved back.

I send you and your sister and your loved ones boundless love and sympathy. I don't understand why the little ones go so young. Why my friend's 7 yr old son died of cancer after surviving a heart condition at birth. All I know is that it happens, has to be dealt with, and life has to be gotten on with. All so hard and all so painful. But it is the only way out.

Take care of yourselves,

Pat
