On March 19, 2001, it was reported on MrShowbiz.com:
"Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffith have
apparently hired full-time bodyguards after the Spanish
star reportedly received death threats from terrorists.
The actor, who has been in Paris shooting Brian De
Palma's Femme Fatale with Rebecca Romijn-Stamos,
is supposedly being stalked by Basque separatist group
Euzkadi Ta Azkatasuna ("Basque Homeland and Liberty"),
England's Daily Express reports.
Banderas received a death threat at his home in Marbella,
Spain, earlier this month, the Express claims."
Fact
This story is very upsetting, and fortunately it is
totally false. Antonio has not received death threats,
nor is a terrorist group stalking him. We do as much as
we can to protect our family and ourselves since much
of our life is lived in the public eye. However, Antonio
and I have not hired bodyguards to protect us from terrorists.
