In his March 8,2001 column, the awful truth for
E!Online, Ted Casablanca wrote:
"Michael J. Fox returned as everybody's fave little
title creature [Stuart Little]. Not only is the admirable
actor a darling human, but he humbly asked for patience
when his medical symptoms challenged his work.
Similar sweet somethings cannot be said of Melanie
Griffith, in the studio to record for her role as Margalo
the bird. To the discomfort of all, Melanie reportedly
kept chirping directions to Fox on how to read his lines.
Mike graciously agreed to attempt her way but ultimately
stuck with the readings he preferred."
Fact
As soon as he heard the real truth, Ted Casablanca
wrote a retraction on March 15, 2001.
"Uh-oh. Did it again. Went and opened my big mouth
and created an even bigger stink. Last week, I reported
that sources from the 'set' of the animated flick Stuart
Little 2 were complaining that Melanie Griffith was
giving costar Michael J. Fox direction on how best to
say his lines.
Even though I received no comment from the pretty star's
camp at the time, I sure have now:
'Melanie is very upset,' said Griffith's rep, 'She would
never tell a great actor like Michael how to perform.'
Glad to hear it. Always liked Ms. G., liked her spunk,
her cheeky appeal, her fearlessness. (And, listen, any
celeb in this town who has the guts to put her private
life up for perusal--via melanieonline.com--has an appetite
for gumption, no question.)"
Finally, a columnist who can admit when he is wrong.
I would like to thank Ted Casablanca for writing his
retraction! He is a gentleman and a reporter. Shocking!
